Getting started with SALVO is easy, through published guidance, training courses, pilot studies and expert facilitator services.
The SALVO guidebook, Asset management decision-making: The SALVO Process written by John Woodhouse, explains what it takes to make the right decisions in the management of assets, not just in the steps and disciplines required, but also how to create a clear ‘business case’ to justify and communicate the outcomes so that everyone can agree on what is worth doing, when and why.
The book is also available to order as an e-book on iTunes and Amazon
Education & Training
Formal SALVO and DST education, training, competency assurance and certification is available from The Woodhouse Asset Management Academy. This can help you to build in-house capabilities and skills for optimal decision-making and asset strategy development, including ‘train-the-trainer’ and certified Expert Facilitator training.
Alternatively, qualified SALVO Expert Facilitators can help you to resolve individual issues, or set up a ‘batch’ program of studies. Expert Facilitators can also provide independent validation of studies performed by your own, trained in-house SALVO facilitators.
Support is available to help personalise, integrate and embed the SALVO process into your own business management system. This aims to maximise success through ensuring that the SALVO process becomes the ‘way you do business’.
Still not sure? Try out the methods in a ‘Taster’ session to explore and evaluate a sample of your current real issues. This ‘try-before-you-buy’ approach can help you gauge the scope for improvement and quantify the business impact of improved asset management decision-making, before you commit to a full implementation.
Want to try out the SALVO Process and the DST ASSET STRATEGY EVALUATOR™ tools with a before committing to a complete program? Our expert facilitator(s) will join your teams onsite for 2-3 days to study a range of representative current problems. This will reveal the scope for cost, risk and performance benefits, and give you a practical view of how the methods suit your organization, people and decision-making challenges. Please contact us for more information.
We will select, with you, a suitable range of your organization’s own cases to be studied, for reinforcing/applying DST module training with an immediate analysis program. The selection will depend on available knowledge and complexity of the cases (‘do-ability’ in the timescale available). We will also provide an idea of the relevant data or knowledge that would be valuable, the ‘live’ capture and pooling of local knowledge is a lot more practical and successful!
We can offer such services for initial pilot studies or trials – and we offer very attractive packages that combine introductory training with facilitation of a local team to analyze and optimize a chosen range of cases.
The initial session will be used to introduce the underlying concepts and the range of methodologies and tools needed for the different decision types. After this session, we split into more subject-specific modular training/workshops, with appropriate multi-disciplined teams – the relevant team in each case should include, at least, process/operations, design/engineering and, maintenance knowledge, and will benefit from some generic information being available (e.g. unit labor costs, production rates and planned/unplanned downtime consequences).
